New ALN Act
Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal Act (Wales) 2018
Legislation to create a new approach to supporting learners with additional learning needs (ALN) was was passed on 24 January 2018 - that is the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal Act (Wales) 2018.
The new legislation which will transform the additional learning needs system in Wales by providing better support to children and young people. These changes have been implemented from September 2021 onwards.
The Welsh Government have created a video and information leaflets to help explain the changes.
The special educational needs (SEN) system is being replaced by the additional learning needs (ALN) system. This is happening over three school years – between September 2021 and August 2024.
